The Playwright: Steven Berkoff

Steven Berkoff is one of the most important and influential living English playwrights, actors and theatre directors. He has worked extensively in all these disciplines. Born in London in 1937, he studied drama in London and Paris. He performed in repertory companies before forming the London Theatre Group (L.T.G.) in 1968. Among Berkoff's many adaptations for the stage are: Kafka's Metamorphosis and The Trial, Strindberg's Miss Julie, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Among his acting credits are A Clockwork Orange by Kubrick, Octopussy, and Rambo. His original plays include East, West, Kvetch, and Decadence. Berkoff has won numerous awards for his work, including two Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Play.
