The Fall of the House of Usher is one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous tales. Not only do the French consider Poe the greatest American writer, but many consider Poe a great French auteur thanks to Baudelaire and Mallarmé's translations of his tales.

We believe that our production can be a real public and critical success. The Fall of the House of Usher is an exceptionally strong piece of drama and it is both visually and physically striking. It is also an appealing story: a bitter gothic soup of love, family and friendship.

Berkoff is widely regarded as a genius with a touch for scandal in the English-speaking world and his name can be counted on to draw a significant crowd.

In France, our premiere production will have to bank on Poe's literary celebrity and the fact that his works have only rarely been adapted for the French stage. We are convinced that French audiences will be astonished by the stifling and overwhelming world of Poe which emerges adamantine from the pressure-cooker of Berkoff's adaptation.

The Fall of the House of Usher will be staged first in Paris, in March 2005. It will then be toured to London and New York.
