Mark Deutsch has composed new music for this production to be performed on the Bazantar. The Bazantar, an instrument he invented and built, astonishingly evokes the sounds of a sitar, sarangi, violin, cello, and bass. It is a five-string acoustic bass fitted with an additional twenty-nine sympathetic strings and four drone strings. The result is a remarkable instrument that weaves a soundscape of mesmerizing resonance, both evoking the power of Western classical music and the rich nuance of Eastern traditions.
